The Border Collie: Sheep Herding Superstar

When you think about sheep herding dogs, the one that most readily springs to mind is likely to be the Border Collie.
These canine workaholics have long been considered of the world’s best sheep herder, and with good reason. Border Collies are highly intelligent, with extraordinary instincts, agility and a mammoth capacity for work.
Watching them at their job is a joy to behold, as they control large herds with stalking movements and an intense gaze known as “eye.”
Border Collie coat colors can be bi-color or tri-color, in merle, sable, or solid patterns, and can be rough or smooth.
The breed originates from the border regions between England and Scotland, and has been around for over a hundred years.
If you’re planning on getting a Border Collie you’ll need to be prepared to give your dog plenty of rigorous exercise. A quick walk round the block just won’t cut it with these high energy dogs. They thrive on a job to do and space to run around in.
Border Collies build strong bonds with their family, but are usually reserved towards strangers. They are seasonal shedders, requiring regular brushing.
