Borzoi

The Borzoi: Russian Aristocrat

Borzoi

A graceful, aristocratic hound, the Borzoi was bred by the Russian aristocracy to hunt wolves, foxes, and hares. The original breed was created by crossing Arabian greyhounds with thick coated Russian dogs.

The Borzoi is a sight hound with a tall and rangy body allowing them to follow prey over great distances. These same qualities allow them to excel in lure coursing while they are also regular competitors in the show ring.

They have a long, silky coat which may be flat, wavy or curly and can be any color or combination of colors.

Borzois are undemanding dogs, with an independent streak. They are however affectionate with their owners and make great pets. If you’re thinking of getting one be aware that they need daily exercise and regular grooming to maintain that lustrous coat.

Also be sure that they are kept in a secure area and walked on a leash, as they will give chase to anything that moves.
