The Cardigan Welsh Corgi: Welsh Wonderdog

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is the older of the two Corgi breeds and, in fact, one of the oldest dog breeds. The Cardigan arrived in Britain with the Celts in 1200 BC, and was quickly put to work as a cattle drover.
Despite their small size, Corgis excel at this job, nipping at the heels of the cattle to drive them in a desired direction. The Corgi is small but powerful, brave and capable of great speed and endurance. In addition, their low profile to the ground offers protection from flying hooves.
Corgi colors include red, sable, brindle, black and blue merle, often with white markings.
If you’re considering getting a Cardigan Welsh Corgi, you’ll be getting a wonderful little dog that is affectionate, loyal and even-tempered. Corgis love being with their people and make outstanding family pets.
They are adaptable to country or city life, but do need daily exercise. The breed’s double coat also requires regular brushing.
