The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: Regal Spaniel

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a breed with an aristocratic history. For centuries, this elegant, energetic toy breed has featured in paintings and tapestries of aristocratic families. This suggests that the Cavalier was a favorite pet of the well-to-do and, in fact, the breed’s name derives from King Charles II of Britain.
Today the Cavalier is a sweet and gentle companion dog which retains the energy and agility of its Spaniel forebears. As a result Cavaliers do well at conformation shows, obedience and agility, and also make wonderful therapy dogs.
Cavaliers have silky coats that come in four color combinations – Blenheim (chestnut and white), Tricolor (black, white, and tan), Ruby (solid red) and Black and Tan.
If you’re thinking of getting a Cavalier you’ll be getting an excellent family pet that is friendly, easy to train, and good with children.
The breed does equally well in city or country and is adaptable in its exercise needs, although ideally they should get daily exercise. The silky coat is surprisingly easy to maintain, requiring little more than a weekly brush down.
