Doberman Pinscher

The Doberman Pinscher: Der Kaiser

Doberman Pinscher

The Doberman Pinscher is a muscular medium-sized dog with great speed, strength and endurance. They are a relatively young breed and although their origins are somewhat obscure we know that the breed originated in Germany in the early 1900′s.

Tax collector Louis Doberman needed a guard dog to accompany him on his rounds, and is believed to have developed the original Dobermans by crossing the short-haired shepherd, Rottweiler, Black and Tan Terrier and the German Pinscher.

The result is an elegant, noble dog of great intelligence and strength. The breed is easy to train, and is known for its ability to absorb and retain training instructions. This has made the Doberman a popular working dog with the police and military.

Acceptable colors for the breed are black, red, blue and fawn with distinctive markings on the face and paws.

If you’re thinking of getting a Doberman Pinscher you’ll be getting an energetic dog who is vigilant, fearless and observant. You’ll also be getting an affectionate, obedient and loyal family pet.

Dobies sometimes get a bad rap but are actually people-loving dogs who form close bonds with their family. Be aware that this is an active breed, requiring daily exercise. Grooming needs though, are minimal.
