The English Springer Spaniel: Non-stop Springer

The English Springer Spaniel is a close relative of the Cocker Spaniel. In fact, Springers and Cockers were originally bred in the same litter. The smaller Cockers were used to hunt woodcock, while the larger Springers were trained to flush (or spring) game. Then in 1902, the Kennel club of England designated Springers and Cockers as separate breeds.
In common with other spaniel breeds, Springers have a merry disposition, and an eager to please attitude. They are also exceptionally enthusiastic gun dogs, known for their ability to keep going under even the most adverse conditions.
The Springer has a powerful medium-sized body, with hanging ears and a moderately long coat that may be black or liver with white, blue or liver roan, and tricolor.
If you’re thinking of getting a Springer Spaniel you’ll be getting a cheerful, affectionate dog, with a genuine love of people. Springers make excellent pets, but be aware that they require daily exercise as well as regular brushing and trimming to keep their coats free of mats.
