The Giant Schnauzer: The Guardian

The Giant Schnauzer originates from the farming regions of Wurttenberg and Bavaria in Germany. In these areas dogs were in high demand as farm help, and a dog as versatile as the Schnauzer was highly prized. Used for driving livestock, and for guarding property, the breed also found favor as a police dog due to its intelligence and trainability.
Despite his name, the Giant Schnauzer is not a giant breed, but rather a larger version of the Standard Schnauzer. These active and spirited dogs are noted for their reliable temperament, rugged build, and dense weather-resistant coat, making them one of the most enduring working breeds.
The breed’s trademark is its dense rugged coat and unique beard and eyebrows. Schnauzers can be solid black or salt and pepper in color.
If you are thinking of getting a Giant Schnauzer you’ll get an intelligent, energetic, and affectionate dog. Schnauzers love their families and will protect them to the death if necessary.
Giant Schnauzers need a lot of exercise, including daily walks, games, and if possible, a job to do. The breed requires regular grooming, including brushing and stripping the coat.
