The Shiba Inu: Ninja Dog

The smallest of the native Japanese breeds, the Shiba Inu descends from the ancient dogs of Japan. These alert and agile dogs were originally developed to hunt small game in the dense undergrowth of Japan’s mountainous areas. In fact, the name Shibu, means “brushwood” in Japanese to describe their typical hunting terrain, while Inu means dog.
Aside from their hunting prowess Shibas make excellent watchdogs They are compact and muscular with a double coat that can be black and tan, red or red sesame.
If you are thinking about getting a Shiba Inu, you’ll get a loyal and affectionate dog who is close to his own family, but suspicious of strangers.
Shibas are known for their highly independent nature, so early obedience training is a must with this breed. They adapt well to most living conditions but do need daily exercise. Be sure, though, that they are exercised on a leash, or in a secure area, as Shibas are talented escape artists.
The short, dense coat also needs regular brushing.
