The Staffordshire Bull Terrier: Staffordshire’s Finest

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is an intelligent, courageous dog, with incredible strength for its small size. The Staffie was originally bred by crossing bulldogs with small terriers to produce a dog for use in pit fighting. When the cruel “sport” of dog fighting was banned in England, aficionados of the breed turned their attention to breeding dogs for the show ring.
Staffies are solidly built dogs with a smooth coat that comes in six color variants; red, fawn, white, black, blue, or brindle. Despite their early history as pit fighters, they are affectionate, peaceful dogs who make great pets and also excel in the show ring, and in obedience and agility competition.
If you are thinking of getting a Staffordshire Bull Terrier you’ll be getting an obedient, highly intelligent and affectionate dog with a distinct sense of humor. They are even-tempered, trustworthy, and excellent with children.
Staffies enjoy daily walks, and they love chewing on things, so provide plenty of sturdy chew toys, or it may be your new shoes they decide to eat!
Training is a must with this breed and they normally learn quickly, although some can be strong willed. The coat is easy to maintain, and requires only a quick brush down once a week.
