The Wire Fox Terrier: A Real Live-wire

A typical terrier with a keen expression and a readiness to spring into action at the slightest urging, the Wire Fox Terrier was originally bred as a rat catcher and fox hunter.
Like many terrier breeds, the Wire Fox Terrier descended from the rough coated black and tan terrier of the British Isles. Originally considered a variant of the Smooth Fox Terrier, the Wire was recognized as a separate breed in 1984.
The Wire Fox Terrier is energetic, friendly and playful. The breed is easy to train and excels in events such as agility. Their dense wiry coats are predominantly white in color with black or tan markings.
If you are thinking about getting a Wire Fox Terrier you’ll be getting a real live-wire who is always up for adventure. These dogs just love to play, explore, run and chase.
While affectionate to their owners they can be reserved with strangers and are also, generally, not good with other dogs. Be warned too that this is a dog that loves to dig.
The Wire Fox Terrier is an energetic dog requiring daily exercise. The wire-haired coat sheds minimally but needs regular brushing, and clipping every 3 months or so to keep its shape.
